This foggy mess is good?

and so it is in life.

the fog will at times lay low, threatening to smother the beauty that is everywhere. we wonder if ever we will see the light of day.

our circumstances tear away at our contentment. feelings of inadequacy gnaw at the joy that once bubbled from our being. the fog hides any hope of seeing into the future. and the only thing we ever wanted is only turning into disappointment.

so we wonder. is all of this actually what God is calling good? for crying out loud, it can’t be true.

but look! look at that canvas. take notice of how the fog illuminates the beauty right in front of us and beside us and all around us.

there is beauty right BESIDE us, if we will only stop staring into the distance. we could sit down RIGHT HERE and have a picnic. we could forget all that we are not and LIVE FULL, weaknesses included. and maybe what we thought we wanted was really not what we ACTUALLY WANTED.

maybe all we actually want is to know that not one second of our life was in vain.
we could bubble with joy again if only we knew our weakness is our beauty.
we would be soaked in contentment if we only believed our circumstances would be for our good. we would stop trying to see into the future if we felt the strong assurance that it would be a beautiful one.

and the only thing we ever wanted. well. hard truth is, we don’t know what we want.

we are not so wise after all and that is disappointing too.

always turns out He knows much better. and what if we actually chose to believe that? how much restlessness would leave? how much frustration would be erased? how much joy would be ours?

if we only chose to believe that He will turn this all for good.

and we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose. romans 8:28 kjv

and so, as it turns out, his purpose is prevalent over our desires after all and nothing will stop Him from doing His good work.

it’s up to us.

we choose.

will we walk in His purpose or continue to fight for ours?
